Amber has not only aesthetic but also healing properties. It helps with fatigue, headaches, flu, asthma, joint pain and heart problems. It is also useful for teething in children.

It is a fossil resin that is estimated to be 40-50 million years old. The name comes from the German berstein (burning stone). The Greeks named this stone electron, which means shining, and called amber lyncurium, or lynx urine, because according to legend, the golden stone was made from the fossil urine of this predator. Another Latin name for succinite comes from succinum - sap, a tree resin. The Egyptians called amber the Sokal, and the Arabs called the Anbar, because the scent of rubbed amber was associated with the scent of amber. The Persians called the caruba stone - the golden thief, the Italians - the ambergris gala, and the Swedes - the reef, that is, to seize. The Slavic name amber was adopted from the Lithuanians, and the one from the Phoenician name for ginitar - sea resin. It creates irregular lumps. The largest Baltic amber found weighs 9.75 kg. The most common is yellow amber, colorless varieties, less often red and greenish, and their clarity depends on the content of tiny air bubbles. The amber nuggets sometimes contain the remains of animals or plants from the third period, the so-called Inclusions. Amber is found off the coast of the Baltic Sea and the North Sea. The most valuable Baltic amber in jewelery, known since prehistoric times, was first included in Breithaupt's mineralogical lists in the 19th century, otherwise it is called succinite.
